Sustainability

We have wondered at times here at DrySparkle as to what is meant by some of the phases used relating to environmental issues and what can we do to be as `green` as possible. What is meant by Sustainable, Zero Carbon and Greenhouse gases?

We have asked ourselves the question “How is our product helping the environment”?

We decided to look into further for ourselves and gain a better understanding of the evolving world.

Please take a few minutes to conduct your own research. This blog is purely for our own purpose whilst allowing us to go back to basics to consider any additional action we can take.

What is sustainable?

Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In addition to natural resources, we also need social and economic resources.

What are some examples of sustainability? Renewable energy, such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, and biomass, are examples of sustainable practices. Sustainability in agriculture includes crop rotation, crop cover, and smart water usage. Sustainability in forestry involves selective logging and forest management.

Sustainability consists of fulfilling the needs of current generations without compromising the needs of future generations, while ensuring a balance between economic growth, environmental care and social well-being.

What is the difference between zero carbon and net zero?

Net zero is similar in principle to carbon neutrality but is expanded in scale. To achieve net zero means to go beyond the removal of just carbon emissions. Net zero refers to all greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere, such as methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) and other hydrofluorocarbons.

What are the benefits of zero carbon?

It is said that Investments in low carbon measures in cities could support 87 million jobs by 2030. These measures will also reduce choking air pollution, cut chronic traffic congestion, and improve worker productivity.

What are greenhouse gases?

Greenhouse gases are gases in Earth's atmosphere that trap heat. They let sunlight pass through the atmosphere, but they prevent the heat that the sunlight brings from leaving the atmosphere.

What are the 4 main greenhouse gases?

  • Carbon Dioxide.
  • Methane.
  • Nitrous Oxide.
  • Fluorinated Gases.

What are the 4 worst greenhouses gases?

The primary greenhouse gases in Earth`s atmosphere being water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone. Without greenhouse gases, the average temperature of Earths surface would be about -18 C rather than the present average of 15C.

What are the 5 main greenhouse gases?

The main gases responsible for the greenhouse effect include carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor (which all occur naturally), and fluorinated gases (which are synthetic). Greenhouse gases have different chemical properties and are removed from the atmosphere, over time, by different processes.

What causes greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect: some of the infrared radiation from the Sun passes through the atmosphere, but most is absorbed and re-emitted in all directions by greenhouse gas molecules and clouds. The effect of this is to warm the Earth's surface and the lower atmosphere.

Is water a greenhouse gas?

Water vapor is Earth's most abundant greenhouse gas. It's responsible for about half of Earth's greenhouse effect — the process that occurs when gases in Earth's atmosphere trap the Sun's heat.

Steamy Relationships: How Atmospheric Water Vapor Amplifies Earth's Greenhouse Effect

(By Alan Buis, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory)

Water vapor is Earth’s most abundant greenhouse gas. It’s responsible for about half of Earth’s greenhouse effect — the process that occurs when gases in Earth’s atmosphere trap the Sun’s heat. Greenhouse gases keep our planet livable. Without them, Earth’s surface temperature would be about 59 degrees Fahrenheit (33 degrees Celsius) colder. Water vapor is also a key part of Earth’s water cycle: the path that all water follows as it moves around Earth’s atmosphere, land, and ocean as liquid water, solid ice, and gaseous water vapor.

Some people mistakenly believe water vapor is the main driver of Earth’s current warming. But increased water vapor does not cause global warming. Instead, it is a consequence of it. Increased water vapor in the atmosphere amplifies the warming caused by other greenhouse gases.

Whilst this information is for our benefit, we wanted to share with everyone. Using this basic information perhaps this could provide a grounding for further research to gain more knowledge.

What part do DrySparkle play in Sustainability?

Simply, DrySparkle is a waterless product for washing vehicles and therefore reduces any water usage immediately.

There are no chemicals released into storm drains which could end up in our rivers.

We encourage customers to reuse the triggers which helps reduce plastic waste.

We hope this goes a little way to understand better the importance of Sustainability.
